Feis Listings

Everything you need to know

Feisanna

Once you become more familiar with feisanna you will want to know when the next feis is taking place. Some people attend feisanna in their local areas, while others will travel far and wide to reach the ones they want to attend.

Feis Listings

Do the feisanna take place all year round?

Yes they do, but they will take place in all kinds of locations. For example one list of feisanna had locations in Co Kildare, Dublin, Newcastle, Harlow in Essex, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester among others.

As you can see, even though a feis concentrates on Irish dancing it is not limited to taking place in Ireland.

The popularity of Riverdance back in the Nineties really brought this type of Irish dancing in front of a much wider audience, and it still remains highly popular today.

Do the same events take place every year?

Yes, very often you will be able to attend the same event year after year. It may not always take place on the same days, but it will usually be around the same time of the month.

A specific feis will usually be announced well in advance to allow for preparations, so you can make sure you are able to attend if you are going to enter.

How can you find the latest feis listings?

If you join a dancing school that offers Irish dancing with the intention of entering a feis, you will be able to get information on the latest events from there. Many schools enter the same feisanna every year, so this is a good way of finding out what happens and when. Typically speaking there will be more than one event taking place in most months of the year, so it could lead to a busy schedule!

Another way of searching for feis listings is to look online. Many dance schools offering Irish dancing classes have websites you can look at. Many of them will provide you with information on the latest feisanna to take place at various locations up and down the country.

You can also look up the name of a specific feis if you know it. For example you could search for the Feile Na Mi, the Feile Rince Uladh or the Four Masters Feis, to name just three. This would produce information on the latest feis dates and very often the results of the most recent feis as well.

The other way of searching for a feis is to use a search engine. You can search for a feis in a specific part of the country, or even look abroad to see what is going on elsewhere. This is not only a good way of finding out what goes on at a particular feis and when it takes place, it is also a great way of learning more about the dancing arena. As you can see, feis listings are easy to find when you know how to access them. With the benefit of the internet, it’s easier still!

Practice makes perfect: "The only way that outstanding dancers reach the ultimate level of experience and skill is to continually practice. If you only ever practice at dance class you need to devote some time in your regular schedule to practice at home as well. If you find it difficult to inspire yourself to practice alone..." Did You Know?

A Ceili dance is a folk dance that is well known in Ireland. While there are competitions that exist for people who are experienced at performing Ceili dances, many people take part in them just for fun. Mind you, they can be good for exercising and getting fit too, since some of them can go on for quite a while. Read More...
