Kirkit Champion Wig Test

Opting to wear a wig

Our wig tests to help you

While some dancers have their hair carefully and painstakingly styled before each and every competition they enter, others opt to wear a wig instead. One of the most popular types of wigs to be worn for Irish dancing competitions is the Kirkit Champion wig, although there are other types of wigs that can be bought as well.

If you have decided that wearing a wig is the right move for you, here are some tests to perform on the wig you are thinking of wearing. It is essential not to simply order a wig and hope for the best. If you want the best possible outcome and appearance at your next feis you must be prepared to go through the following stages.

Kirkit Champion Wig Test

Can you see the light through it if you hold it up on your hand?

This is an excellent test that immediately gives you a good idea of whether you are looking at a good or a bad wig. The best wigs will always be densely made with lots of hair, and thus will offer a much more realistic result.

Can you take advantage of a wig fitting service?

Some companies that provide wigs will also offer a wig fitting service. It is worth opting for this if the company is fairly close to where you live, since it means you are far more likely to end up with just the right wig for your needs.

Be careful to choose the right colour to ensure a perfect match with your own hair colour

When you wear a wig for your feis you want it to look as natural as possible. The last thing you want is for the organisers to take one look at it from a distance and know it is a wig and not your own hair. Choosing just the right shade is important if the illusion is to work properly.

How heavy is it?

Finding a good combination of a good quality wig with lots of hair that isn’t too heavy might sound impossible. But it is worth searching to find a proper wig that won’t feel like it weighs a ton or lead to you perspiring too much while you are wearing it.

Put it through the ultimate test and dance with it!

No matter how attractive a wig looks and how well it has been made, it must always stand up to the ultimate test – to survive a feis without slipping or moving or looking unnatural.

Once you have chosen a wig make sure you fix it into position and get someone to watch you as you perform one or two dances. Ideally you should get someone to video you as you dance, so you can see how it looks afterwards. This way you can get an idea of how the wig looks and feels throughout the dance. This is the best way to ensure it is the right wig for your next feis – and potentially an award winning one at that!

Did You Know?

A Ceili dance is a folk dance that is well known in Ireland. While there are competitions that exist for people who are experienced at performing Ceili dances, many people take part in them just for fun. Mind you, they can be good for exercising and getting fit too, since some of them can go on for quite a while. Read More...
