My Diary - March 27th 1999

On Saturday 20th March I had to be up bright and early again for yet another feis in Birmingham

the Scanlon Feis

They did the Open first and then the Intermediates which was a bit strange!

We left home at 9.15a.m. to be there in time for the 11.00a.m start but of course we didn't start until after 1.00p.m.!!!

I came third in the Open Light Jig (my only open dance) and then had to wait ages until the start of the Intermediates which should have started at 12.30p.m.!

I then got 4th (Slip Jig), 5th (Hop Jig), 7th (Light Trophy) 2nd (Hornpipe), and 5th (Heavy Trophy)

Not Too Bad!

I then stayed to watch my mate Sarah in the Primary competition which finished at

just before 6.00p.m. and she also did quite well.

After that we got in the car and drove 200 miles to catch a ferry to Ireland! We got there just after 10.00p.m. and had to wait until 2.00a.m. before we could get on the ship. We finally arrived in Ireland at 7.30a.m. Sunday morning and then had another 200 mile drive to Tralee in Co.Kerry.

That's where my mum was born and my Nan and all my uncles still live.

For all the Americans out there it's not far from the famed Lakes of Killarney and is host to the annual Rose of Tralee festival which inspired my dress.

We stayed in a lovely Bungalow for a week but unfortunately my mum got ill so the last couple of days we had to stay in. Never mind I'm going back for the Rose of Tralee in August. I'll do a special page about that when it happens!

Bye for now!
