6th March 1999
On Saturday 6th March I attended the 6th annual Holy Family/Kenny Memorial feis which was held in a place called Kings Norton in Birmingham.
I only found out about it on Wednesday and my dad got the details for it on Friday. Talk about a rush!
Friday night I had to have my hair done again!
Then on Saturday morning I got out of bed to find that it was SNOWING! Dad said we might not go after all. However by the time I had practiced and had my Ringlets sorted the weather had cleared up and off we went.
When we arrived the man on the door said that they were running on time, so I quickly got my shoes on as I was due to start in 20 Minutes. When we got in to the hall my Friend SARAH was dancing her Light Jig as she is in the Primary grade, so I stood and watched. When she had finished she came over and we stood together while she waited to dance the Slip Jig. Dad said that I didn't need to get ready yet because they still had both the Trophy competitions and the Heavies to do.
After the Slip Jig they announced all the results for the light dances. SARAH got nothing for the Reel but then got a fifth place in the Single/Hop Jig. I was really pleased for her. Then they called her out for FIRST in the Light Jig! She got several other medals by the end of the day!
Then it was my turn.
I got nothing for the Reel either! I then got Fifth in the Hop Jig as well! I then came FIRST in the Light Jig as well! We seemed to getting all the same results!!!
I then got Second in the Slip Jig and then did the Light Jig in the Trophy. I couldn't believe it when they called my number for FIRST! Dad was doing up my Heavy shoe and I just ran out with him still holding my laces!
I got Third in the Heavy Jig, Fourth in the Hornpipe and then did my Jig in the Trophy. I couldn't believe it when I was called for Third. I've never got two trophies at the same feis before. It's a really great feeling.
Sarah and I had a great afternoon so we went in for the two hand Reel, even though we haven't practiced it for ages. There were lots of teams in it but we still came Second.
