Feisanna
and How to Make The Most of Them

Follow these simple rules and you will not only enjoy the Feis but hopefully get good results as well.

First - PREPARE!
Sounds obvious I know but it is important. Follow the instructions about the feis itself -
How to Survive a Feis

Make sure that your shoes are polished, especially the Buckles on your Heavy shoes. These catch the eye of the adjudicator and hopefully they will watch you dance instead of the others!
Clean the soles of your shoes so that they don't slip.
If you like to
apply anything to stop them slipping, do it now!
Make sure that your dress is pressed, if required. Don't leave this to the last minute as these dresses take hours to do!
Mum and Dad usually fight with mine for about an hour between them!

Second - Create a Feis Checklist
This can be re-used at each feis. You should include such things as safety pins, emergency sewing repair kit, camera, pen, notebook, etc. as well as the more obvious items like your shoes and dress and SPANKIES (big knickers to us Brits.)
You might think there is no need to include these but I have known several cases where people have forgotten their soft shoes after travelling a 100 miles or more to the feis. Not a very good start! They have ended up buying new shoes, which didn't please their parents.

Third - Refreshments
Make sure that you take plenty to drink and something light to eat. You will almost certainly be facing a long day out and will be hanging around for ages. I have left my home before 7.00a.m before now and not got back until after 10.00p.m.
Not only was I tired but I was starving as well!

Fourth - Friends
Going to a Feis with a classmate makes the whole thing a lot easier to cope with. You can give each other support and help each other to practice.

Finally - It's meant to be FUN, so just ENJOY IT!
